our mission

To become Europe's most trusted matcha brand.

Not the loudest. Not the most marketed. The most trusted.

We want every person who tries Refined to know exactly what they are getting: the best matcha we can source, packaged with care, and backed by a team that genuinely believes in what they sell.

01 · sourced in kagoshima

Grown in volcanic soil. Harvested at peak flavour.

Kagoshima sits at the southern tip of Japan, on some of the most mineral-rich land in the world. The volcanic soil, active for centuries, gives the tea leaves a depth of flavour that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Our matcha is made exclusively from first-flush tencha: the youngest, most tender leaves, harvested once a year when their umami concentration peaks. We source directly from established farmers who have refined their craft across generations.

02 · a higher standard

Quality is our starting point, not our selling point.

Quality should not be a feature to advertise. It should be the baseline. Every decision we make, from farm selection to packaging, is built around that principle.

Our matcha is stone-milled in small batches and never blended with lower-grade leaves. We do not cut costs where it matters. We do not compromise where it counts.

03 · from japan to your cup

Every detail, considered at source.

The journey from Kagoshima to your kitchen involves more care than most people realise. We oversee every step: from harvest timing and stone-milling speed to oxygen-sealed packaging.

Nothing about that process is automated or rushed. It is why the matcha you receive is as close to the source as possible.

our philosophy

01

Sourcing

Every product we release meets one standard: the best we can source. Not the most affordable version. The real thing, always.

02

Transparency

We share where our matcha comes from, how it is processed, and what makes it different. No vague origin claims.

03

Craftsmanship

Stone-milling is a slow, careful process. Our farmers spend years perfecting their technique. We respect that craft by never rushing what takes time.

04

Refinement

Refinement is not just in the name. It is in every detail: the way the pouch opens, the way the powder feels, the way a cup comes together.

faq

questions, answered

What is ceremonial matcha?

Ceremonial matcha is the highest grade, made to drink pure with just water. It comes from the youngest leaves of the first harvest, shade-grown for weeks and stone-ground into a fine powder. The result is a vibrant green color and a smooth, naturally sweet taste. Ours comes from Kagoshima, Japan.

What is the difference between ceremonial and culinary matcha?

Culinary matcha comes from later harvests and has a stronger, more bitter taste, which works well in baking and cooking. For a pure matcha or a latte, choose ceremonial.

How much L-theanine is in matcha?

L-theanine is an amino acid in tea leaves that promotes calm, focused energy. A 2g serving of our ceremonial matcha contains roughly 60 to 70mg, working with caffeine to give steady energy without the crash you get from coffee.

How much caffeine is in matcha?

A 2g serving contains about 60 to 70mg of caffeine, similar to a shot of espresso and less than a cup of filter coffee. Thanks to L-theanine, it is released more gradually, giving calm, longer-lasting focus instead of a quick spike.

How much matcha can I drink per day?

1 to 3 cups (2 to 6g) a day is fine for most healthy adults. The EFSA considers up to 400mg of caffeine a day safe, a limit matcha alone will not easily reach, just count any other caffeine you have too.

Can I drink matcha while pregnant or breastfeeding?

In moderation, yes, but check with your midwife or doctor first. The EFSA advises a maximum of 200mg of caffeine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and one matcha serving fits comfortably within that if you count your other caffeine sources.
